F.A.S.T. Piper™ Training Course

Who Should Attend: The course is designed for F.A.S.T. Piper™ users to get exposure to the GIS interface in Version 7.2. This course deals with surface hydraulics only. If you are not familiar with the software or would like to discuss aspects of future forecasting, it is recommended that you attend the 2 day public course or arrange a private 2 day course.

General Notes: 1 Day Course. Basic Windows navigation skills are recommended prior to attending.

Course Description:

F.A.S.T. Piper™ 1 Day Course

This course is designed to teach user’s a workflow for data entry while providing exposure to the onscreen editing tools and various imports (image file(s), shape file(s) and data). This course will focus on software usage, navigation, data requirements, data input and basic modeling strategies.

Participants will learn the following:

  • Capabilities of F.A.S.T. Piper™
  • Importing maps and data
  • Construction of the surface facilities using on-screen editing tools
  • Designating pipeline loops
  • Model calibration techniques (i.e. identify stagnant liquids)
Course Topics:
  • Geographical referencing of facilities in F.A.S.T. Piper™
  • Building gathering systems using the on-screen editing tools & imports
  • Pressure loss correlations
  • Modeling process
  • Model calibration procedures and examples
Course Instructors:
Lane Olafson, P. Eng.
Lane is a senior technical advisor at Fekete, and has worked with the F.A.S.T. Piper™ development team for two years. Lane completed his Mechanical Engineering Degree at the University of Calgary, where he graduated with honours. He has over 10 years of experience in fluid flow analysis and design. Lane brings a broad range of design experience and technical expertise to the F.A.S.T. Piper™ team.
Tara Bobocel, C.E.T.
Tara Bobocel is a project technologist at Fekete and specializes in the optimization of gas gathering systems using F.A.S.T. Piper™. She completed the Petroleum Engineering Technology program at SAIT and has worked at Fekete since 2001. She uses F.A.S.T. Piper™ on a daily basis to evaluate optimization potential for clients. Tara has modeled numerous gas gathering systems, producing as much as 400 MMcfd.
