F.A.S.T. Piper Training Course
Who Should Attend: This course is designed for technical personnel involved in the modeling of gas gathering systems.
General Notes: 3 Day Course. Basic Windows navigation skills are recommended prior to attending.

Course Description
This course is designed for technical personnel involved in the modeling of gas gathering systems. It covers the sizing of new pipelines and compressors, evaluation of the performance of existing systems and a methodology for the construction of reliable forecasting models. The objectives of this course are to familiarize each participant with:
- The basic features of the software, including ample opportunity to work (hands on) with the software.
- The Gas Gathering System modeling method as developed by Fekete, with background theory as required.
Course Topics
The course will commence with building various simple gathering systems to demonstrate its basic features. The instructor will lead the attendees through each exercise for the first 2 days. The final day will focus on modeling existing systems starting with discussion of the modeling method developed by Fekete followed by an example that incorporates the process principles.
- Day 1 – Construct several simple gas gathering systems starting with a single pipeline design and expanding that to the design of a multi-pipeline, multi-well system. Concepts required for constructing looped gathering systems, compression, multiple plants and some time-based scheduling will be incorporated into the example models. Details on input and usage of the delivery point, gathering system, well deliverability, pools and gas properties editors will be discussed.
- Day 2 –Highlight the different methods that can be used to size a pipeline and compression.
Approximately ½ of the day will be deal with compressors (theory and practice as it applies to gas gathering system modeling).
The last ¼ of the day will focus on pressure loss modeling in pipelines and wellbores with particular attention to liquid loading.
- Day 3 –The first ½ of the day will focus on the modeling method developed by Fekete: the pipeline pressure loss match, the well deliverability match, the compressor performance match, generating the base case, and the production history versus base case forecast check. The second ½ of the day focuses on the application of the modeling procedure concepts through the construction, tuning and generation of a base case forecast for an existing gas gathering system.
